For Reference Purposes an online English translation of the Snow Queen can be found Here

  • Well, obviously the two of them spent a lot of time fighting each other with toy swords and competing with each other like in canon. While Other Worlds don't quite exist as they do in the normal KHverse's (the Fairy and Demon worlds aren't quite the same thing), and this world is much bigger than the Islands, Riku was still interested in leaving their Town one day to see what else is out there.
  • Riku's reaction to the having the mirror shards in him was to become very distant from everyone else and go off by himself alone to train a lot. When his friends, and especially Sora and Kairi try to talk sense into him, he mocked and taunted them. He stops competing with Sora and just dismisses him as weak. Sora and Kairi are both pretty hurt and confused by all this.
  • While Sora does worry that everyone else's assumption that Riku drowned in the river or something might be right, he eventually decides that can't be it and Riku did want to see the rest of the world, so maybe now that he's become a jerk he's decided to leave without Sora and Kairi even though they promised they'd all go together. This is why Sora runs off to chase after Riku. He does leave a note for Kairi and his parents so they won't worry about him, and he does still check with the river just in case.
  • Namine is obviously the same age as Kairi like she's supposed to be. She lives in a big mansion by the river all by herself since her parents are dead and her guardian is gone all the time doing experiments in his lab. She decides to keep Sora because she's incredibly lonely and wants someone to talk to and stay with her so the house doesn't feel so empty. She also has an art gallery instead of a garden.
  • I haven't decided yet what would remind Sora of Riku and Kairi enough to have him recover his memories, but he might get help from Chip and Dale, who have a way into the library from outside and like to come in when it's cold. He also doesn't run off without talking to Namine, who now feels very bad about what she did and helps him by pointing him in the direction of the castle Mickey and Minnie live in, saying they might know more than she does about where Riku might be.
  • Since Mickey is a mouse and not a human in this, Sora's not going to mistakenly think The Prince is Riku, and the story Daisy tells him about the Princess's test to find a Consort is more Daisy explaining why The Princess might be too busy right then to talk to him, though she'll send him to speak to her sweetheart Donald the Court Magician anyway, since he might be able to help.
  • As it turns out, Minnie and Mickey aren't too busy to help Sora and it's explained that the Snow Queen, Maleficent, is quite real and an enemy of their kingdom who causes trouble for them whenever she and her minions come down from the North. There's rumors that she's acquired a new servant recently who matches Riku's description. They give Sora new clothes, a proper sword and send Donald along with him with the instruction to meet up with Goofy who is at the Northern Boarder at the moment and should also be able to help.
  • The Bandit gang that catch Sora and Donald in the woods is not the full Organization. Most of the Original Six except Zexion are missing and Zexion is their Mage, which is how they can capture Donald. Both Roxas and Xion intercede on Sora's behalf when they were planning to just kill him, but they planned on keeping Donald anyway because they recognized Donald as the Court Wizard and decided they were going to ransom him. Roxas and Axel are both put in charge of watching them due to Roxas' being one of the ones who wanted them to keep Sora, and he also takes Sora's sword. Xion takes care of the band's animals.  While at the camp, Sora and Roxas talk and Sora tells him why he was traveling North, and after hearing this and a bit more about the situation up there from Xion's animals, Roxas decides to help Sora and Donald escape and convinces Axel to help, which he does, by distracting the others who are still at camp while Roxas and Xion sneak them out. Roxas then gives Sora his sword back.
  • Once they meet up with Goofy and head on to where Aerith's house is, Aerith gives them food and shelter for the night before sending them on to Merlin who lives closest to where Maleficent's castle is located and can help them further, so this part isn't really that different except for possible cameo's by the rest of the Restoration Committee. Merlin tells Sora straight out he already has everything he needs to save Riku (a brave and compassionate heart), and that there isn't much else he can do to help him,  except give him something that can help him get inside of the castle. He then gives the group the directions they need to get the rest of the way.

Xehanort = The Demon Who Made The Mirror
A Demon who in some versions of the story is said to be Satan himself makes a mirror that distorts anything reflected in it, making beautiful things ugly and and powerful things weak, while also magnifying all the worst qualities of things as well. He and his followers try to take it up to heaven to show it to the angels, but it turns out they can't hold onto it long enough to get it there and it falls to earth and shatters into a million pieces, with the smallest pieces being blown by the wind and getting lodged into people's eyes and hearts and making them generally miserable and or turning them into jerks. Xehanort gets this role because the mirror was made for the lulz and that makes everything that happens afterward his fault. Just like canon.

Sora = Gerda
Gerda is the main character of the story, who is childhood friends with Kay and who chases after him to try and save him after he gets spirited away by the Snow Queen. There are enough parallel's that this casting choice was obvious. Of course since this is Sora and Riku and they are not Kay and Gerda a lot of their backstory is closer to being like it is in KH canon. They're still friendly rivals who compete a lot and fight each other with wooden swords like they were in the first game. However, they still live in the mountains instead of on an Island. There will also be a lot more of the boys fighting, unlike in the original where Gerda didn't have to fight anyone to save Kay.

Riku = Kay
Gerda's childhood best friend who gets stolen by the Snow Queen. Before that though he got little tiny pieces of the evil magic mirror stuck in his eyes and heart, making him see the world the way the mirror reflected it and turning his heart to ice. Naturally this caused him to become a huge jerk. Then the Snow Queen made him forget everything about his old life and made him her servant. Riku is pretty much a shoe in for this role. Everything I said above about Sora applies to Riku too of course.

Kairi's Grandmother = Kay's Grandmother
The one who tells the kids the story of the Snow Queen. Kairi's Grandma is still Kairi's Grandma so Kairi is in this AU even though she ends up getting left behind when Sora goes to save Riku.

Maleficent = The Snow Queen
Our Main villainess. She's the one who steals Kay away and the entire story is all about finding her Palace in the North Pole, infiltrating it and dragging Kay's butt home. Another shoe in. Maleficent is still Maleficent of course.

Namine = The Witch/Sorceress with the Flower Garden in Eternal Summer
The Witch was really lonely and took a liking to Gerda so she decided she'd keep her and made her forget all about Kay and her life before coming to stay with the Witch to prevent her from leaving. Fortunately Gerda got her memories back as soon as she saw something that reminded her of Kay.
This is pretty much perfect for Namine, since she does something pretty similar to Sora in canon, so I had to use her for this one. Of course she'd have an art gallery instead of a garden.

Daisy Duck = The Field Crow
A minor character who points Gerda towards the Palace where the Princess lives and tells her about the contest the Princess set out. Daisy was given this role because the Field Crow is the mate of the Tame Crow

Donald and Goofy = Bae the Reindeer and The Tame Crow
Okay, this more of a “kind of” placement since their roles are the most different from the original. The Tame Crow was just a pet who lived in the Palace and helped Gerda get in to talk to the Princess, while Bae the Reindeer helps Gerda later in the story to cross the North Pole to get to the Snow Queen's palace. This however, is about the point where things start deviating more from the Snow Queen and line up a bit more with Kingdom Hearts. Not too much, but...
Donald is the court wizard and Goofy is Captain of the Guard like in canon. Donald is at the palace when Sora arrives there, but Goofy is investigating the northern boarders of the Kingdom due to Maleficent causing trouble there.

Minnie = The Princess
The Princess ruling one of the lands Gerda passes through while looking for Kay, who holds a contest to find a Prince Consort who was as smart as she was and who she'd get along with. There might be better fits than Minnie, but she's already a Queen in canon and I wanted to include some Disney characters. The Princess in the original story helped Gerda by giving her fresh (and expensive) clothes and a coach to ride in, but Minnie sends Donald along and mentions Goofy will also help if they run into him. She's also the one who tells Sora that it might have been the Snow Queen/Maleficent who kidnapped Riku, even though this was another character's job in the original.

Mickey = Her Prince
The guy who won the contest the Princess set out for her suitors. He's a poor commoner, but a nice guy, and the Princess doesn't really care about his social status since he won fair and square so she intends to marry him anyway. I mainly chose him because Minnie's already the Princess and it works for him anyway.

Organization 13 = The Band of Thieves
They nab Gerda because she's riding around in that nice looking coach with the pretty clothes. The Org mostly becomes them so I can make Roxas the Robber Girl

Roxas = The Little Robber Girl
I wanted to include Roxas and this seemed like a good place for him. XD The Little Robber Girl is the daughter of one of the bandits, who was a bit lonely because she was the only kid there and decides to take Gerda as a playmate. When she finds out what's really going on and the forest animals tell them that the Snow Queen has Kay, she decides to help Gerda escape and continue on her journey.
Roxas is a bit different here. Axel and Xion are with them too of course, and they're still BFFs, so Roxas isn't as lonely as the Robber Girl was, and Sora already knows at this point who has Riku. Sora and Donald try to escape on their own, but aren't really able to because Roxas and Axel were assigned to watch them. Then they hear why Sora was heading north and Roxas chooses to help him and convinces Axel to go along with it, so they can be on their way and meet up with Goofy.

Aerith = The Lapland Woman
*shrugs* I guess if I was going to include any of the Final Fantasy characters, this would be a good place for her. The Lapland woman was some old wise woman who gives Gerda and Bae shelter and point them towards the Finland Woman

Merlin = The Finland Woman
Because Merlin is more useful than any of the other non-evil old guys in KH. The Finland Woman was the one who gives Gerda the tools she needs to get into the Snow Queen's palace and rescue Kay, so Merlin will do the same for Sora.
